ghostly craft and wild working party

spooky creations

Funded by the National Lottery, our weekly autumn-term wellbeing sessions support teenagers who find secondary school challenging. Students have explored the space, learnt new skills and formed friendships, with the staff reporting increased feelings of confidence and also resulting in improved school attendance. They ended the first half-term by creating personalised clay ghosts, each reflecting their individuality.

wet & wonderful working party

On a very wet Saturday we hosted a working party. We were incredibly lucky to have Charlotte from the grounding club start the day with a free session for volunteers. It was a magical moment in the Talking Shed which allowed everyone to relax and unwind with her magical activities. (..back pains disappeared!) We then went out into the garden and bulbs were planted, scrub cleared and willows pollarded - in despite of the rain and wet. Thank you to everyone who joined us. To be added onto the mailing list for future working party days please email info@space2grow.space

appreciation for the nurture club

Our weekly nurture club returned to the garden this term, thanks to Waverley’s Community Partnerships team. The club provides meaningful early support for children who find it difficult to attend after-school clubs or activities, or who have limited access to free play and time in nature. The same children attend throughout the year, giving them time to develop a sense of belonging and lasting connections with nature and one another. We thank the Waverley team for their continued support and recognition of the club’s value. We look forward to hearing how the children enjoy the garden as the term continues.

the space2grow gallery

Patrick from the Hampshire Plein Air Group joined us during a Thursday volunteering session to present a gift. Patrick recently hosted a painting session in the space very kindly framed and donated the picture he had created. We love how his interest was drawn to the little colourful children's tools outside the greenhouse. This will take pride of place in our new kitchen and perhaps we can start our own space2grow gallery!

wagon upgrade

The Men in Sheds team have been working on multiple projects from benches to display plinths. Their most recent project has been restoring the wagon that sits outside the Farnham Town Council Offices. They restored the wheels sometime ago but have now renovated the main base. They work hard as a team manovering their projects around the town!

talking teens

Our next Talking Teens course starts on the 12th November. Please feel free to share with your friends and in your communities.

reflections from the acre...

We were delighted when Diana Wellings recently got in touch with us. Diana previously owned the land with her husband Mike before it became the space2grow charity it is today.

'I want to say a huge thank you to everyone involved with space2grow.  My late husband Mike Wellings and I owned the acre and Mike turned it from some nine old allotments into a wonderful garden.  We used it as a family and spent many happy hours there.  Mike grew lots of vegetables and fruit and it is wonderful to see that it is still very recognisable as his garden.  He adored children and would be so thrilled to find so many young people playing there and enjoying themselves as children should.

Thank you everyone for continuing Mike’s work and may you have many more years of fun and laughter in such a magical place.'

Diana also kindly shared some family photos of Mike in the space;
