belly dancing the stress away
We were delighted to welcome the staff of a local domestic abuse charity to enjoy a well needed day of recharging and relaxation for the whole team. All the staff had a fantastic time - they loved the space and the feeling of being completely cut off from the everyday world. They took part in a drumming circle guided by a group facilitator, the sound was phenomenal. They were then treated to a belly dancing session in the open air facilitated by a lovely lady (aged 78) who had them shimmying in coin belts.
There was crafting in the making shed where they painted stones and made bead bracelets for each other. Finally they were treated to a relaxing sound bath using a huge gong, singing bowls, crystal bowls, seed shakers, a crystal harp and an ocean drum which sounded exactly like the waves crashing in on the shore. A guided meditation at the end helped them completely unwind.
inspired by the space
The recent September sun was enjoyed by the Hampshire Plein Air Group who hosted a painting session in the space. They were blessed with gorgeous weather. Everyone in the group expressed how delightful it was and many said it felt like an enchanted garden hidden away. Spoilt for choice for subjects to paint lots of great paintings and drawings were produced. They kindly shared some of their works.
success at South & South East in Bloom!
The volunteers got to enjoy a special moment of recognition and success when we attended the South & South East in Bloom Awards at RHS Wisley. As well as Outstanding in the 'it's Your Neighbourhood Awards', we also received GOLD in the 'Your Community' and 'Environmental' Awards. Huge thank you to all of our volunteers who contribute so much to the space; from all the Thursday volunteers to all of the Men in Sheds Team fixing things behind the scenes. A moment to feel very proud!
Farnham Maltings Family Day!
Huge thank you to Farnham Maltings for hosting a brilliant Family Day last weekend. The event was packed with activities to take part in and our space2play team were hosting free activities for families to enjoy including play doh fun and decorating pebbles. Thank you to all those who came to say hi!
We need your help!
We are holding another working party in October! An opportunity to give back to the space that we all gain so much from and invite family members who perhaps are unable to come during the week.
If you have an hour to spare please email info@space2grow.space so we can add you to the working party mailing list and we will find you a job that will make a big difference. It will be a fun day and many hands make light work!
reflections from the acre...
This week we hear from Ali, who has been to many of the working parties and shares how she has enjoyed the space;
'I first experienced space2grow on a beautiful, sunny spring morning with 'Draw Farnham' art group. Waiting for the wooden door to be unlocked and stepping into the hidden space, I felt like a character from the Secret Garden. I loved the acre so much that I went back the following week for the Summer working party and again in the Autumn. I have loved watching the changes the seasons bring to the space, as well as the tea and the chat!'
