Bughouse on the BBC!

Installation day for the Bughouse!

On Saturday, the project that the Men in Sheds team have been working so hard on, got installed in Gostrey Meadow during the Farnham in Bloom Community Day! Ken and all of the Men in Sheds team worked hard to meet the deadline and produced such a fantastic bug hotel. Well done to Kaz of Greenup Britain; such a clever design to raise awareness about the decline of the insect population as well as creating a great habitat for insects in Farnham's Town Centre. The project was supported by Farnham Town Council  as well as each letter being sponsored by a wide variety of local schools, clubs, churches and businesses - a real community effort...and we were delighted to see that the Bughouse got mentioned in the local BBC news!

Farnham in Bloom Community Day was a lovely opportunity to share the project as well as catch up with other community groups who work so hard to preserve the green and natural spaces in and around Farnham. We were delighted that we got the stall next to Mill Cottage Farm Experience who came with donkeys, pigs, guinea pigs and lambs

space2play

In the space2play sessions children (aged 2-4) are continuing to challenge themselves - learning how to hammer nails! - guided by space2play lead Catherine. The children learn how to engage in risky play safely. This develops their resilience, their physical abilities, and sense of well-being. The space2play sessions follow the principles of Forest School and as such support and encourage a child-led, holistic approach to play.

a-maze-ing centre piece

The students from Farnham Heath End School are continuing to add creative whimsy to the acre by creating a magical owl house that will sit in the middle of the maze when finished. They have brain stormed brilliant ideas to make something that will be really unique. To have something special to find in the maze has been on our wishlist for a VERY long time at the project so we really appreciate the work the teenagers are putting in. We know it will delight many a maze visitor!

spring in the garden

We've actually had sun and warm days on the acre! Signs of spring....the volunteers are working hard behind the scenes to get the garden ready for the growing season ahead. Veg beds turned, the greenhouse getting a re-vamp and the entrance a tidy. Tea, coffee and aubergine brownies helped power the troops!

parenting courses for the new term

As the current Talking Teens course comes to an end we are pleased to share that new courses are due to start after the Easter break. There are places available on both the Talking Teens and the Nurturing course. For more information please email info@theparentingspace.space

reflections from the acre...

This weeks reflection is from Erin van der Borgh, one of the UCA students who captured images as a part of a project on sustainability. They spent time with each of the groups on the acre; space2play, men in sheds, garden volunteering, teen wellbeing and the parenting courses as well as time in the space. We love their gentle look at the garden captured through these images - they are welcome back again!

'We had such a great time on the acre, seeing all of the activities organised with the lovely people and really connecting with nature, despite the occasional very heavy rain! Documenting the goings on at space2grow was a really great experience for my project but also personally with getting to know people in Farham having just moved here in my first year of university.'

If you would like to share what the acre means to you, please email info@space2grow.space - we love hearing everyone's reflections.

Thank you for taking the time to read about what we do at space2grow.
