Summer working party
Thank you to all those who came to our summer working party, especially to those who bravely donned waders and ventured into the pond! Helpers of all ages got stuck in. The vegetables were watered, greenhouse cleaned, gravel pit refreshed, mud kitchen washed, pond cleared of weed and stream dredged! There was also time for pond dipping. Our next weekend working party will be in the autumn, if you would like to find out more email info@space2grow.space.
summer for space2play
The space2play summer term was very busy. During the heatwave there was lots of water play and children helped to water the beds. The end of the school year bought goodbyes as many of the children who have been coming since we opened are off to school in September. It is fabulous to think how space2play helped the transition on to the next step; building their confidence, helping them make new friends and learn new skills. At the end of this newsletter we share letters of thanks from the families themselves.
dance for all!
We were delighted to host Doorstep Duets in partnership with the Farnham Maltings. This is the fifth year we have had the opportunity to host the dance and they are always so joyful. They tell a little story through dance that is always done in a magical way. This year it focused around a bench, appropriate with all the repair work the Men in Sheds carry out on the benches around the town. The dancers also gained a secret audience from our Farnham Forest School nature rangers session who looked on from under the trees. Never fails to delight!
judging in heat
During the recent heatwaves we were visited by the Judges from S&SEiB. The Farnham Town Crier did an amazing job turning up in full regalia announcing their arrival. We were happy to offer shade and elderflower cordial! Thank you to our volunteers who have worked hard to keep our veg beds growing and we have our fingers crossed for Farnham Town Council who made the town centre look spectacular for Farnham in Bloom despite the continuous heat!
wellbeing beyond space2grow
The wellbeing sessions for young people have been enjoyed through the summer months, getting opportunities to play, carry out crafts and learn in nature. We recently received some lovely feedback from one of the teachers about the impact of these weekly sessions and how they help the children, the staff and the school community;
'I cannot understate the importance of these young people having access to a place where they can explore, play and learn about themselves. For many of the young people it is a transformative experience that allows them to develop their emotional regulation, interpersonal skills, confidence, creativity, empathy and individuality (the list goes on) and for me as a teacher it is a joy to see the ripple effect this has on the school environment.'
reflections from the acre...
It's been lovely to share the journey with families as their children prepare for their first day of School in September. They will be missed but we look forward to younger siblings now joining us and the children who move onto St Andrews school will now get to visit space2grow each Monday as a part of their outdoor learning. We share some notes of thanks from the families who attended...
