fairy wonderland
Our weekly 'wellbeing for teenager' groups from Weydon and Farnham Heath End secondary schools have been working on a project to create a magical fairy garden. Using old tree stumps they have been carefully creating the perfect fairy hideouts with swings, little windows, ornamental doors & hidden ladders. The children also got to create glitter wellbeing jars for mental health week where they explored their emotions and how to manage them.
Thank you to the National Lottery Community Fund for their support to provide this provision for local teenagers.
Coming alive with wildlife!
We've absolutely loved seeing the wildlife come alive in the warmer spring weather. From the pond teeming with newts and tadpoles to the sound of morning and evening song filling the acre. A dramatic rescue happened during the volunteering morning when a newt was rescued after being caught in the pond pump. It was a whole team effort! On Dawn Chorus day our trustees were recording bird song at 5.30am to capture everything from robins and blackbirds to wrens and chaffinches.
spring clean
As the space begins to flourish our volunteer team have done a tremendous job to keep pace - organising the sheds and green house and making supports for sweet peas and beans. Huge Thank you to Waitrose for their continued donations of plants, flowers, herbs and vegetables - it's been a joy to add them to the beds each week.

celebrating community!
We had a joyful day at the sustainability festival hosted by Farnham Town Council and Farnham Community Farm. Such a variety of community groups, great live music and fabulous food stalls. Councillor Catherine Powell set up a Children's wellbeing corner where we were next to The Eaves Counselling, our friends Homestart Surrey, opposite fantastic charities Growing Hope and Headroom. We ran a craft where visitors were able to contribute to a large hessian banner which we'll be putting up in the garden. Thank you to everyone who came along to say hi and joined in and to Farnham Council who worked so hard behind the scenes.
We were delighted to play host to the 3rd Farnham Beavers who enjoyed a session in the garden. It was a glorious evening and they got to see it at its best!
THANK YOU!
Huge thank you to the local Farnham Waitrose team. We are delighted to share that from being a part of their community matters green token scheme we received a £1,000 donation. Thank you to everyone who popped Alice came down to present the cheque and spent a whole morning with the volunteers and watching the Farnham Forest School enjoying their session around the pond. The donation will allow us to buy much needed new pond dipping nets and other play equipment that all the children who visit the acre will be able to use!
A BIG invitation to a BIG LUNCH!
We would like to invite all of our community for a day of celebration. In the spirit of the BIG LUNCH community initiative set up by the Eden Project, everyone who is able brings a dish to create a buffet lunch for us all to share and enjoy together. When you rsvp to info@space2grow.space please let us know what you’re planning to bring so we can ensure we have the right balance of savoury and sweet. (If you have any special dietary requirements please do bring along a dish that you can eat.)
reflections from the acre...
We hear from one of the young people from Weydon who visit each week who has kindly put together a very considered and thoughtful reflection;
'I love space2grow for many reasons and believe that it really benefits me and the others who come. It gives me a quiet space to think while also having people to talk to and the combination of the two really gives me a good time to relax surrounded by nature, such a hard thing to find right in the middle of the week. This helps me to calm down and use the next day as a fresh new beginning, a second Monday if you like and provides a clean split from any bad things that may have happened earlier in the week. I see this in the other people who come too. We often seemed stressed or beaten down as we get on the coach but this is completely gone by the time we arrive. You would never believe that we'd end up spending the next two hours hunting newts in the pond. But the best thing about space2grow by far is the people. All of the adults and the children are kind, caring people who are willing to have a conversation or help you to do whatever you want anytime. Overall I believe that space2grow is a lovely beautiful place and really benefits us all.'
