enriching education

the outdoor classroom

St Andrews primary school visit space2grow every Monday and have enjoyed exploring the change of seasons as part of their 'understanding of the world' lessons. Watching the change from autumn to winter and now winter to spring. The visits are a lovely way to enjoy maths, literacy and art lessons and children love taking part in the activities. As part of their brilliant beast topic, the children loved hunting around looking for dragons and dinosaurs, which were always hiding in the maze!

At the end of the newsletter we hear from the teacher and what space2grow means to them. The children share what they like best;

'I like going in the maze because it has different ways out and different ways in'
'I like to look for owls every time I go there'
'I like playing on the horse'
'I like looking for bugs and worms underneath the soil'
'I love playing in the mud kitchen and making potions'
'I like to explore and play with my friends at space2grow'
'I like looking for different flowers and at nature'

creative Men in Sheds

Recently Colin from the Men in Sheds team helped with a very special project. Local artist Nami Ralph wanted to create a Kavad for Farnham Literary festival. A kavad is an Indian story telling box that storytellers use to tell stories. The small compact box opens in many layers, in a rather fascinating manner as the story unfolds. She told the story of Jo Van Gogh. She married Vincent Van Gogh's brother and inherited all his paintings. A very delightful project.

On opposite ends of the project size scale the team have been working on some very impressive huge cold frames for Farnham Town Council for the greenhouses in East Street.

Communication is the key

We were recently interviewed by TV Surrey about the Parenting Courses we host at space2grow. We are very proud to be able to offer these inperson courses at a time when they are harder to find inperson. Thankyou to both the National Lottery and Farnham Town Council for the support in running the programme.

We have a new course starting on Thursday 23rd April and are taking bookings now. Please email info@theparentingspace.space for more information.

floral teens and an easter bunny visit

The teens have been creative with the flowers that have started springing up in the acre with the warm weather. They created Mothers day or special person frames as well as decorating glass vases. They even started thinking about activities for the wildlife; creating a newt water park slide!

At space2play the Easter Bunny made a special visit! This term has been full of potion making, hammock swinging, bubble blowing, clay sculpting, painting, hiding and enjoyed during spring sunny days! The Summer Term starts after the Easter Break and the wild space opens up to its glorious best. Get in touch to find out term dates and how to book.

national lottery open week!

We were delighted to host an open morning on National Lottery Open Week. Despite the grey and very windy day we welcomed new visitors, one who created a magical instagram reel which you can view HERE

In the growing area it's been busy relocating veg beds in time for spring and planting up beautiful donations from the Waitrose Farnham Community outreach team - the recent sun has helped!

reflections from the acre...

We are so pleased to be able to support local schools and this week we hear from Ms Gillies, the St Andrews teacher, who brings her pupils each week to discover more in their wild natural outdoor classroom.

“ Using space2grow has been an amazing way to bring the children's imagination to life. It is a space where they feel safe and comfortable and allows them to enjoy being children. The whole class leaves our visit with a big smile on their face each week.

It is a really good place to support not only the children's mental health but also the adults. It allows us to immerse ourselves in nature and enjoy the world around us."
