London school children have fun at space2grow

London Fields school annual visit

Summer at space2grow kicked off with our annual visit from year 5 children from London Fields Primary School in Hackney. Supported by a generous local benefactor, the trip gave 52 children the chance to escape the city, explore the space2grow garden and spend a magical night under canvas.

A wonderful range of activities was put on for them including meeting an array of farm animals from Mill Cottage Farm Experience, making pizzas from scratch with Coral's Cookery School, learning about nature in the garden, paddling in the river, scarecrow making, playing games in neighbouring Bishop's Meadow and more!

After a busy day the children tucked into a fish and chip supper from The Traditional Plaice in Downing Street and enjoyed hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows around the campfire. Before they left they decorated lovely wooden medals made by Farnham men in sheds, our collaboration with Farnham Maltings. Huge thanks to the 1st Rowledge Girl Guides group who lent us tents and to our wonderful volunteers who helped put the tents up!

in the news

Lovely article in the Farnham Herald about 'afternoons on the acre'. Click here to read it on our website.

It was great to be featured in an article in Essential Surrey magazine about the donation of trees from The Patio Black Spot Removal Company. Click here to read it on our website.

afternoons on the acre

A reminder that 'afternoons on the acre' are available to book throughout the summer. Angela got in touch to book and brought her granddaughters down and they had a great time exploring the garden. Just send an email info@space2grow.space to book.

reflections from the acre

This week trustee Nicola shares her reflections .........

It's been a busy summer at space2grow and the highlight for me so far has to be our wonderful camping trip for children from London Fields School in Hackney. Hearing the excited buzz of the children's voices as they approach through the churchyard, introducing them to the space and seeing them explore, experience new things and, above all, have fun is an absolute pleasure. The year 5 group were really engaged and enthusiastic about all the activities and really enjoyed having the freedom to run around, explore and take a break in nature. Here's what some of them had to say about their trip:
"I LOVED being able to explore freely, making pizzas and sleeping in a HUMONGOUS tent."
"My favourite part was paddling in the river, the scarecrow competition and handling the animals at the mobile farm."
"It was amazing to be able to make our own pizzas from scratch. Thank you space2grow!"
