Blooming marvellous news

blooming marvellous news

Fantastic news! At last week's South & South East in Bloom awards, space2grow won Outstanding in the It's Your Neighbourhood category.
Part of RHS Britain in Bloom, It's Your Neighbourhood recognises local community groups and volunteers who are working to improve the place where they live with gardening or conservation. The largest category of the day, it was great to see so many community gardens are thriving.
Well done and thank you to every one of our volunteers - this award is for all of you!

willow crafts with Creative Response

We welcomed Creative Response back to the acre this week for some willow weaving and natural craft activities.

Our harvested willow, sunflowers and greenery provided perfect materials for a relaxing morning making garlands and dens.

And the dome has provided plenty of fun for visitors to the garden this week.

family fun in the acre

We've enjoyed some beautiful sunny afternoons on the acre with local families and friends this summer and would love to squeeze in a few more visits before autumn sets in.
It's been fantastic to see and hear children running around exploring all that our wild garden has to offer.

space2grow is open for family fun on weekdays from 3.30pm - 6pm. If you would like to book out the acre and come along one afternoon, please get in touch via info@space2grow.space.

in our garden

The last few weeks have been all about tidying up and preparing for the coming season. Our volunteers have been busy deadheading, weeding and thinking about what to grow next year in our Perennial beds. The plan is for lots of bold colour and big flowers that last well into next Autumn.

It's been busy in the veg patches too, clearing and weeding to get ready for planting next season's crops.

And our harvesting continues, with these squashes perfect for making tasty seasonal soup. We're also collecting our sunflower seeds for replanting next year - and for filling the bird feeders that hang in the trees on the acre.

Even as summer draws to a close, the garden is still full of glorious colour.

reflections from the acre....

This week, Hilary joined us with Creative Response to take part in our natural crafts session. Here are her reflections ...

"I really enjoyed the session. I got a lot of help as weaving willow was a lot harder than I thought it would be. I now have some idea of how to weave willow that I didn’t have before. I also helped make the willow dome which was great. I wasn’t sure what size it was going to be or what it was going to be made out of. I don‘t know how long it will last but for the moment it will be ok."

"I’m not usually outside very much so found it really relaxing. I’ve been to space2grow before as I was involved in a project with Creative Response when we made artworks for the garden and the bicycle dome which I enjoyed. Today I’ve learnt about willow weaving and will now know how to proceed when I want to do it again."

If you would like to share what the acre means to you please email info@space2grow.space - we love hearing everyone’s reflections.

And one more thing ... to help keep our wild garden beautiful, please make sure you take all your rubbish with you and, ideally, bring any food or drinks in recyclable containers.

Thank you and see you soon!
